Canon SX510 HS Camera

Canon SX510 HS Camera

Canon SX510 HS is a budget version for those can't afford Canon SX50 HS camera. SX510 has a 30x optical zoom but it cost only around $190 unlike SX50 camera which has 50x zoom but cost around $400. Both cameras have a CMOS sensor.

Canon SX510 is cheaper and also lighter than those Bigger SX series cameras. It gives you a 30x optical zoom which is equivalent to 720mm with same CMOS sensor Canon Powershot SX50 HS camera has. But it doesn't have a view finder and comes with DIGIT 4 image processor (SX50 has a new DIGIT 5 one)

This superzoom camera is not an upgrade for Canon SX30 or Canon SX40 cameras but for those who have old Canon bridge cameras like SX10 or SX20 models this camera might be a cheaper upgrade than the latest model which is SX50. Not everyone can afforded a $400 even it's one of the best Mega zoom cameras out there so SX510 is cheaper but a really good alternative.

Main features of Canon Powershot SX510 HS camera,
  • 12.1 megapixel high-sensitivity 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor.
  • Canon DIGIC 4 image processor.
  • 30x optical zoom and 24mm wide-angle lens with Optical Image Stabilizer.
  • 1080p full HD video in stereo sound with a dedicated movie button.
  • 3-inch color LCD with a screen resolution of 461,000 dots.
  • 32 predefined shooting modes.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi.
You can't compare Canon SX50 and Canon SX510 cameras.SX50 is bigger and better camera hands down but expensive.Canon SX510 is a more inexpensive model. You can buy this camera from Amazon for just $170 - $200 with free shipping. This camera is really good option if you want to teach your kid about photography and about lenses. You can't compare it with an interchangeable lenses but it can take pretty good outdoor photos.

Canon Powershot A590 IS Digital Camera

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DDKEWM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001DDKEWM&linkCode=as2&tag=sx10-100-20&linkId=HE3BWVW33BMJ4ZCC

Few days ago one for my friends ask me to do a research to find a perfect digital camera for her. Her requirements were,

  • Has to be a cheap camera something around 200 usd
  • Good indoor and outdoor photos
  • Small size
  • Easy to use
The Digital camera which came to my mind first was Canon Powershot A580. Which you can get for around 150$ a brand new one and a refurbished one as low as 75$ ! But I thought its better recommend the Canon PowerShot A590 IS Because its Image Stabilizer feature. For someone who don't use Camera for everyday its a great help to get great Photos. Also you can find it for around 200$ and a refurbishedon for even around 150$.

Why Canon PowerShot A590 IS is great -

  • easy to use
  • excellent image quality
  • Lightweight/Portable
  • Bright LCD
  • Image Stabilizer
  • Features worth the price
  • Manual modes
Cons might be these -

  • Short battery life ( Usual for point & shoot camears - Keep extra AA rechargebles)
Thats the only nosiable bad thing about Canon A590IS is short battery life if you use with flash. but its just common among all point & shoot digital cameras. Since you can use Rechargable AA battires for this digital camera (2 AA's) you can keep extra sets of batteries if you want to take photos for hours. You might find some users complaining about bad image quality and bad indoor proformance but all those are because their lack of knowdage or experince using the camera.

Specisifications of the Canon Powershot A590 IS -

Sensor1/2.5" CCD
Resolution8.00 Megapixels
Lens4x zoom (35-140mm)
ViewfinderOptical / LCD
LCD Size2.5 inch
ISO80-1600
Memo. TypeSDHC / SD
Battery2 x AA
Weight7.8 oz (221 g)
Shutter15-1/2000
Aperture2.6 - 5.5
Aperture2.6 - 5.5

The 4x optical zoom lens offers slightly more zoom than the average point-and-shoot digital camera, covering a range equivalent to 35-140mm on a 35mm camera. In addition to the 4x optical zoom, the PowerShot A590 IS features another 4x of digital zoom, which does a decent job of maintaining image quality despite the digital enlargement.

You can make videos and also it has manual focus and other manual options too. So if you are looking for a low price Point & Shoot camera Canon Powershot A590 IS is one of the best you can go for.

If you want to take great photos from a camera then you need to understand the camera first. Its same for this Canon Powershot A590 IS too. If you try to take photos right away without reading manual and without understand whats its strong points and weekpoints Photos won't be good. Its not cameras faults.

This camera can bought for less than $100 from Amazon now but if you are looking a new point and shoot camera then check the Canon PowerShot A1400 which can be also bought for less than $100 but it's lot more newer and has more features. To get more details you can click on image below.

Canon Powershot SX20 IS

Canon Powershot SX20 IS has been launched by Canon as the successor of Canon Powershot SX10 IS. But I don't see many things to get excited about this Upgraded version of SX10 IS Camera. They haven't add too much to make Canon SX10 IS users think about this new camera. This is definitely not a replacement or an upgrade for your Good old Canon Powtershot SX10 IS Camera.

What SX20 IS and Which SX10 IS doesn't have :

  • 12 mp 1/2.3" CCP sensor ( SX10 IS has a 10mp 1/1.7" sensor).
  • Hints & Tips within the camera's user interface ( I don't like it a lot ).
  • More screen brightness settings.
  • Can insert date and time on photos.
  • Blink Detection ( shut eye )
  • 720p video recording at 30 fps
  • SD/SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus Card, HC MMCplus Card

What SX10 IS had but SX20 IS doesn't have

  • No HDMI cable to connect to HD TV (you need to buy separately).
  • ability to record a voice message to photos is gone.
  • Shorter manual only 179 pages ( SX10 has 289) But I was told its easy to understand.
  • Only has superfine and fine modes. "Normal" more is gone.

There are things missing Which Canon should had added :

  • Threads on the lens barrel for filter.
  • RAW format
  • Battery life indicator

Manual states that you must use the Canon software to transfer images/movies from the camera to a PC, else movies will not transfer (frames will be dropped) correctly and images shot vertically may be transferred in the horizontal orientation. So better not Copy and paste movies from your SD cards. I think this goes for SX10 IS camera owners too.

If you are new and want to buy a Canon SX series camera then Go for this new Canon Powershot SX20 IS but if you already have a SX10 IS camera thing you can be happy with yours. Because everything else are same.

Canon 58mm Snap-On Lens Cap

If you are a Canon SX10 IS owner who use Lensmate 58mm lens adapter then one problem you face is Canon SX10 IS original lens cap won't work with this 58mm Lens Adapter. So you need to find a new 58mm len cap.If you like to keep everything original and branded then you can buy a Canon Canon E-58U 58mm Snap-On Accessory Lens Cap. It does the job well.

But remember we are talking about Canon SX10 IS and Canon SX1 IS here. This 58mm lens cap is NOT a replacement for the slip on cap that comes with the S2/S3 cameras. It is made for use with an adapter and UV/filter lens. I have seen some people complain about this Lens cap after buying without reading about it. The Canon 58mm lens cap fits the Canon conversion lens adapter which you can use for S5is and other compact cameras.
Only problem this Canon 58mm Lens cap has is there's no strap or a string so that you can attach it to the camera. But you can sort out this with Bower CK501 Lens Cap Keeper. You can buy both from Amazon.com for very cheap. I don't think these can be found cheaper anywhere else.

Here is a photo of Bower CK501 Lens Cap Keeper on a Canon Rebel XSi.Its same for other cameras too.
