Replacement NB-10L Battery for Canon SX50

Replacement NB-10L Battery

Canon SX50 HS and Canon SX40 HS cameras use NB-10L lithium rechargeable battery. This is another great change from old Canon SX super-zoom cameras like SX10 and SX20. These NB-10L lithium rechargeable batteries are not expensive unless you need Original Canon NB-10L lithium rechargeable battery which cost you around 40$. But you there are other brands which sell same battery for less than 15$. So no point of buying these batteries from Canon but you can find cheaper options at Amazon. Like one I have displaying on left side. That it kit is only 17 USD and it has 2 NB-10L lithium rechargeable batteries and Car charger which can be very very handy in outdoors.

Main reason Why these NB-10L lithium rechargeable battery is better, because lithium rechargeable batteries had low self discharge rate. Which means battery will stay alive for long time than rechargeable AA batteries. Also you can take lot more photos with these lithium rechargeable batteries than with AA batteries. These days one of these battery cost you less than 10 USD so these are not expensive either. It's a common myth that lithium rechargeable batteries are more expensive. Maybe years before but not anymore.

You can take around at least 400-600 photos spending on charge. Having three of these batteries will enough for even week long vacation or  trip. I don't think most of time time you will even get chance to take over 500 photos unless you are a professional photographer. I check around and it seems these Photive  NB-10L Battery are pretty good. You can buy separate battery for 10$ but for 17$ you can get 2 batteries plus charger. If you are an Owner of Canon SX40 or Canon SX50 camera then these are the best replacement batteries for you.

Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable batteries are the best !

Eneloop Rechargeable batteries

The last post I made was in May and it was about Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable batteries. I had bought in same month. Now it's been 2 months and I still have those Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable batteries in my Canon SX10 camera without recharging ! I must have taken over 500 photos and I can't believe how these batteries are holding on ! nearly 3 months without self discharging.

I won't buy any other type of rechargeable batteries than Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. None of other brands could hold more than a week. I guess having 3 sets of Sanya Eneloop batteries will be enough for one whole month even if we take photos everyday morning to night. I don't use Flash a lot so I have to check how long these batteries can last with Flash. Even with flash I think these will last longer enough. I'm going to buy another 2 sets of Sanyo Enloop rechargeable batteries for my SX10 So I don't have to worry about dead batteries in middle of vacation or a field trip. If you haven't tried these great batteries yet then you should give a try. You will not regret that.

Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable batteries for Canon SX10

So I finally bought these Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries for my Canon SX10 IS Cameras. I talked about this before and the biggest problem camera users have with rechargeable batteries is the the self-discharge rate. I have find most types of rechargeable batteries discharge within 2-3 days and I have 8 rechargeable batteries from a reputed brand drop downs to zero with 24 hours.

There are 2 types of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. First generation which is old batteries and Second generation batteries which are Sanyo's latest type rechargeable batteries. First-gen Eneloop AA cells have "Type 2000mAh, Min 1900mAh" printed on them, while 2nd-gen Eneloop AA battery cells only say " Min 1900mAh "but in fact they have the same capacity rating of 2000mAh.The 2nd-gen Eneloop claims to "recharge up to 1500 cycles", while the original only claims 1000 cycles. It's not going to matter a lot unless you are heavy user of these batteries like if you recharge those daily.

It's if you need good batteries for your Canon SX10 or Canon SX20 Camera which will keep power more than 2-3 days then it's better to have 2-3 packs of these batteries. Specially if you are going on vacation a far away place where you might not able to get your batteries charged.

Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery

I saw these Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Battery in Amazon site and its the first time I saw Canon rechargeable AA batteries. They have 2500 mAh capacity rating and comes along with charger which has charge indicator light lets you know when your batteries are fully recharged.

The Canon CBK4-300 AA Rechargeable batteries and charger kit is designed to work with any Canon digital camera that's powered by AA batteries. This charger kit comes with four AA rechargeable batteries powered by Nickel Metal-Hydride technology that's free of the frustrating "memory" effect. Although designed by Canon for use in Canon cameras, these batteries will work in any electronic device powered by AA batteries.

What is wonder is Canon is not a battery manufacturer or not known for that. So these must be NiMH cells are simply re-labeled from other vendor ? But my opinion is even if Canon wouldn't re-label batteries from other members without thoroughly testing those. They wouldn't want to ruin their brand name by promoting low quality rechargeable Batteries. So I believe these Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Batteries are a quality product. You have plenty of good reviews about these in Amazon with high ratings. Even at Amazon these Canon CBK4-300 Rechargeable Batteries are sold by Canon itself.

Panasonic Eneloop Rechargable Batteries

Panasonic Eneloop Rechargable Batteries

Update - Sanyo brand name has been closed down by it's mother company, Panasonic. So now these batteries come to  market under the new name Panasonic Eneloop Batteries.

Sanyo Eneloop Rechargable Batteries are cheap but better than most of other expensive rechargeable battery types. Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries are pre-charged and ready to use right out of the pack Also these rechargeable batteries preserves charge for long periods of time. According to Sanyo, the new eneloop LSD (low self-discharge) NiMH batteries can maintain 85% of its original charge after 1 year of storage. In lower temperatures percentage would be lower still this is pretty good. Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries have an Over-voltage protection system and  foldaway AC plug offers worldwide voltage for traveling. Also Batteries can be charged up to 1,000 times.

One of the biggest problems I have with Rechargeable Batteries are self-discharge. This means that a charged battery slowly discharges itself without any equipment consuming any current. It's a pretty annoying when you want to take photo of something suddenly and finding batteries are dead. When you need them, the energy is gone ! Sanyo Eneloop batteries have an extremely low rate of self-discharge, which means they hold their stored energy for a very long time. But self-discharge rate would be different in different areas depending on temperature. Low the temperature get faster batteries would  self-discharge.

Its always use 4 batteries of same brand for your Canon SX10 IS camera. Also its better use 4 batteries which charged same time in a charger. Thats good for life time of batteries as well as for your camera. You can find lot of positive reviews about Sanyo Eneloop Rechargable Batteries at Amazon.com. Some of those reviews are very informative so you will learn a lot about Rechargeable Batteries by reading those.

Sony Rechargeable Nimh Batteries

Best AA Rechargeable Batteries

I have seen lot of positive reviews about Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries at Amazon.com. But Be careful ! there are 2 types, One made in Japan and One made in China. I don't mind most of china made stuff but don't buy Chinese Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries. Unfortunately I had bought these and those didn't recharged at all. I had to throw them away. Stay out of China made Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries.  Better stay out of all kinds of rechargeable AA batteries which made in China. There are no signs you can find these china batteries from Original Japaneses Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable. So the best way not to fell for those fakes is buy these from a good reputable place like Amazon.com.

Rechargeable AA Batteries for Canon SX10 IS Camera

Rechargeable AA Batteries

One great thing about Canon Powershot SX10 and Sx20 cameras is both use AA batteries not those Canon Lithium camera batteries. Canon Batteries are pretty expensive so keeping backup batteries would be costly. Fortunately Canon SX10 IS users can use rechargeable AA batteries. The Camera uses 4 Rechargeable AA Batteries So if you plan to have a full day field trip then you need to keep at least 1 extra battery set. at least 2 extra battery sets if you plan to use the SX10 IS internal flash.

I received free a rechargeable battery set for free from the shop which is not included in original package. A brand called Camelion. I have to say these rechargeable batteries are great. Important thing is they keep the power for more days  after recharge.

Be careful if you are going to buy Sony AA Rechargeable Batteries. There are China made ones which don't recharged at all. Even Ebay Auctions have these fake china batteries So buy from a reputable place like Amazon.com. Panasonic Eneloop Rechargeable AA Batteries are good I know mnny who use these brand and happy with them. Energizer is another popular rechargeable battery brand you can find everywhere. I have mixed feelings about this brand these are good though not the best.
